CIMCO Communications, Inc. CEO, Bill Capraro Elected to CompTel/ASCENT Board of Directors
Oakbrook Terrace, IL, February 10, 2004 - CIMCO Communications, an integrated communications provider that serves businesses that have mission critical communications needs, today announced that Bill Capraro Jr., president and CEO, was elected to the Board of Directors of CompTel/ASCENT, the leading telecommunications industry organization committed to creating and sustaining true competition.
Mr. Capraro was elected to serve a two-year term on the Board and joins other executives of large, mid-sized and small telecom companies who have become board members to assist in providing a voice on legislative, regulatory, competition, issues and challenges the industry faces overall.
"I am honored that I was elected to the Board. As co-founder and CEO of CIMCO Communications, I've faced the same issues, problems, and challenges that many of our members may have faced being a smaller voice in an industry of larger players. The Board needs additional representation of its core constituency and I believe I will be instrumental in championing this perspective on the Board, " explained Capraro.
Capraro, an active proponent of local phone competition, who has a passion for the success of the industry, was uniquely qualified to take on such a huge responsibility as he has history with one of the founding organizations, as well as knowledge and proven experience of how to achieve progress that will benefit members. Additionally, he served as a charter member of TRA/ASCENT and was a Board of Director member for ASCENT where he served as chairman of regulatory and business policy initiatives.
Mr. Capraro served as the lead witness in ASCENT's successful challenge of contract termination penalties with the Illinois Commerce Commission. As a result of his testimony, contract termination policies were found discriminatory and unlawful. The Illinois Commerce Commission ruling enabled all competitors to offer service to formerly captive contract customers.
As a result of Mr. Capraro's history with ASCENT, he was instrumental in facilitating the merger of CompTel and ASCENT. He will use his industry expertise and experience to ensure that the CompTel/ASCENT Board continues to provide a sound voice for the organization's members.
